Some of the latest work from my studio....

We’ve been pretty busy trying to get the farm ready for sale, took a 2 week driving vacation that took in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, and those who know me know my eldercare responsibilities, but…I’ve still managed to get some work done.

Candle Lantern/Business Card Holder

I just delivered to her a very belated salon-warming gift in the form of a Candle Lantern and matching business/appointment card holder. This came with two different candle sets, one is a large 6" x 10" white e-candle with remote control and a set of three smaller diameter tiered pillars that fit nicely inside the lantern and can change colors with their remote.

Beach Inspired Stained Glass Treasures Box

Been kinda busy at Thistle Dew Art Studios making stained glass boxes...this latest box is about 8 x 8 x 2, with opaque tan and brown textured sides and real shells highlighting the beach inspired top. There's a mirrored base and a chain to hold the lid open. As always, the bottom is felted and buttoned to protect the box and your furniture.

Sunset Stained Glass Jewelry Box

Anyone who has been to NW Central Florida for any time at all will know how rich and vibrant our sunsets are. (Please see above) Those sunsets are the inspiration for this box which measures 8" x 10" x 1.25".This box is hand finished with a copper patina solution, giving it a nice rich glow to it's metallics.

Steam-punk?

For this box the lid was fashioned with an old leaf from a chandelier which was then encased in lead, strapped in brass, and  patina finished in copper. The sides are bevels that are 2" x 4" and they drive the dimensions of the rest of the box body with the back at 2" and the front at 4". The lid is chained at about 110 degrees from closed using a brass finished ball chain. Furniture fininshes are protected from scratches with a green felt covering the bottom. All in all, a very cute little box for storing watches, jewelry, or your dearset treasures.

"A Walk In The Woods" (aka "7 Pines")

I'm calling this an interactive sculpture. There are three slots across the base to arrange the seven trees in any desired fashion and will hopefully be used as a reflective remnder of that soft hush you get in a pine forrest. The base is approximately 14 1/2 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 3 inches tall.

A 360 Degree View at Thistle Dew

Last but not least, the view to the West, the section of golden sunshine, killer sunsets, and our back pasture where the cows, calves, and donkeys (Esmerelda, Pedro, and Fred) are close enough to say "Hi!" to when they rotate in there.

Botanicals at Thistle Dew Art Studios

One of the distractions I give my eyes is tending to/taking in some of the greenery that surrounds the studio. We've got some baby Bonsais just starting their journey and a Jade plant clinic that originates from my grandmother's root stock. There are some red and white caladiums waiting for it to get just a little bit warmer, some basil(s) just planted and some rosemary and garlic chive standing by.

WIP: "Sun" Colored Mosaic Mirror

I had some pieces of glass that were recently acquired and all of them were along that "warm" line of oranges and reds and I thought they'd look good on a mirror frame. There are two alternating reds and two alternating oranges and the side border will be random and presenting a thin line around the perimeter of the piece.

Abstract Panel

This panel was a lot of fun to put together. Predominantly clear pieces, some glass marbles, some texture, and a little bit of color. This panel measures approximately 14 x 21  and will be framed after it gets cemented this week.

A Suncatcher

I needed a quick and easy piece to keep moving forward. This suncatcher came in real handy for just that purpose. It's made entirely of transparent glass and looks great in a western or eastern facing window. Who says suncatchers have to catch morning sunbeams only?

A Crazy Start to the Week (Turkey Time)

So, this Monday morning, just a little after 9:00, I pulled up at the front of my studio and the cement pad that is my "front porch". Just leaving the area, immediately upon my arrival, was a big (20-25 pounder) Tom Turkey, resplendent in his spring colors and doing a hasty exit, stage right. I watched him go and smiled at his harried exit as he did not have a thing to worry about with me.

Monday Morning Skills Challenge Explained

To that end, I have been thinking a lot about direction, and product direction, for myself and for Thistle Dew Art Studios, and sometimes, you can over-think it. That's where the "skills" challenge of a business card holder comes in. And, sometimes, it takes a friend to tell you some hard truths...like the fact that there are a lot of folks, very talented folks, creating art from glass.
